In many of todays 'solo piping' competitions the competing pipers are required to play three times, once each on the Highland Bagpipe, Small Pipes & Uilleann Pipes and here our French competitor opts for the latter.
France does have a long, strong piping tradition so listen out for French players. Like their 'bagads' it might take a wee bit of getting used to but you will be enriched by the experience.
