We originally noted that we were a bit short on Erse (Irish Gaelic) and questioned a couple of points. We are pleased to add some notes passed to us:
"The reason all the notes are in Irish is that this was originally conceived of and cut as a local recording for the local people of Rann na Feirste and Gaoith Dobhar - who speak Irish as a first language.
You are correct that Seosamh Mac Grianna and Joe Mhici Jimi are the same chap - in Irish, we use nicknames for our friends, and in the Donegal Gaeltacht, Joe's sobriquet signifies his family relationship, sometimes the father or at times the mother. Here, Mhici = Mickey / Michael, and Jimi is of course Jimmy - so he is "Mickey Jimmy's Joe" - to distinguish him from all the other "Joes" out there.
His given name is Seosamh (Joseph) and Mac Grianna is the surname, usually "englished" as Green or Greene. He is related to the Irish language author, Seamus O Grianna, and to the musical O Dhomhnaill family which has produced many famed Irish singers and musicians, including the late Miheal and his sister Triona, of Bothy Band fame."
We hope you find that as interesting as we did AND it's still a good album, by the way!
