Joan Blue
Biography
From the CD Booklet " Fiddling with a Piano "
Joan Blue has been playing piano for as long as she can remenber. At the age of Fourteen she was playing for three Scottish Country Dance classes each week and at fifteen was in her first dance band. She has broadcast and made records with various Scottish musicians and, of course, it was through music that Joan met her husband, accordionist Jimmy Blue, who later had his own Scottish Dance Band, travelling the world with entertainer Andy Stewart.
Joan has accompanied many of the great fiddlers of the previous generation, including Ian Powrie and Angus Fitchet, and now uses her talents in encouraging another generation to follow in their footsteps. She is greatly in demand at festivals, where her sympathetic accompaniments are much appreciated, and she coaches a group of traditional fiddlers at a girl's school in Perthshire.
A recent enthusiasm, among her many interests, is the Council for Music on Hospitals, a charity which brings live music to residents of retirement homes, hospitals and hospices. Joan's delight in her music-making is obvious to all and she gets the greatest satisfaction from bringing some joy to those in care.
