Born in the tiny fishing community of Alder Point, Cape Breton, JENNIFER is the youngest of ten children. Like many children born on Cape Breton Island, music surrounded her from the moment she was born. Her father played fiddle, and the family always enjoyed the kitchen parties and ceilidhs. By the age of three, JENNIFER was playing the piano by ear. By six, she was taking dance lessons. At nine, JENNIFER ROLAND began studying the fiddle with Kyle MacNeil of the world renowned Barra MacNeils.
In 1997, JENNIFER released her debut CD, "DEDICATION." The disc, lovingly conceived and beautifully written and performed, allowed JENNIFER to spread her unique talents far beyond the Cape Breton shoreline. Fans adored JENNIFER and the rollercoaster of emotions through which she took them. One minute, the crowd was pounding its feet with excitement as JENNIFER enthusiastically performed her jigs, reels and strathspeys. Then, moments later, the audience would be moved to tears listening to the delicate touch of JENNIFER ROLAND's slow airs. ROLAND developed an avid following after performances at Disney World in Florida, in Colorado, Maine, throughout Europe and all around Canada's Atlantic provinces. Her mastery of the fiddle combined with her dynamic stepdancing and creative choreography make a JENNIFER ROLAND concert and incredible event.
Her second CD, "WINGS," represents the evolution from a young, raw talent to that of a seasoned musician about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. "WINGS" is still steeped in the Cape Breton culture from which JENNIFER blossomed, but this time, the songs are stronger, the performances more innovative and the overall feel, more mature. "Home Sweet Home" carries a melancholy air through its spirited performance. "Tears" and "A Mother's Love" are played with an incredibly lyrical yet delicate touch. "The Growl"-experimental in its performance, stretches JENNIFER as a musician. "Back To Your Shores" features the vocals of friend Stephanie Hardy. "WINGS" was produced by Al Bennett, and features many of Cape Breton's finest musicians.
