Alan Bain
Biography
From the CD Booklet "The Road to the Isles "
Alan Bain is a piper of the old school brought up not only playing the pipes, but also making them in he family bagpipe and reed making business. He was taught to play the pipes by his father Frank M Bain and by the famous Pipe Major William Ross of Edinburgh Castle. He was also greatly influenced by many fine army pipers, in particular the likes of Pipe Major Robert MacKay( Camerons & Parachute regiment ) and Pipe Major Donald MacLeod of the Seaforths.
This CD is a showcase for the style and the tone of the pipes which Alan plays. Made by Alan and his brother Frank, these pipes were crafted from African blackwood and silver, to conform to the dimensions and tone of an old set of Avernish pipes made of whale tooth ivory, horn and hazel.
